You can send a text to people from your own carrier’s website. For instance, If you have My AT&T or T-Mobile account, you can sign in to your account, where you can send and receive texts.
Sending Text message through Apple’s iMessage
The Messages app can be used to send messages. Just open up the Messages app, enter your recipient’s phone number (or Apple ID), write your message and press “send”. you can send a text to both iPhones and other kinds of phones through the app once your Mac is set up to receive texts from both your Apple ID and phone number.
